Accuride Announces the Crash & Smash Demolition Derby
Accuride announces the Crash & Smash Demolition Derby, a new competition added to the BSRA National Championship Belt Sander Race event set for Thursday, July 25, 2013 at the AWFS®Fair in Las Vegas, Nevada. The festivities begin at 4:00 p.m. in the convention center’s Central Hall, booth #9746.
“This year’s BSRA event is going to be a wild one,” says BSRA president and Accuride representative Jamie Goodwin, “In addition to the national championship races, we’re planning destruction of epic proportions with the all new Crash & Smash Demolition Derby.”
Participants with sacrificial sanders are invited to participate in the head-on “Crash” segment or the “Smash” segment, where sanders will careen into a post specially designed to cause sanders to break apart. Contestants will earn prizes, with the most spectacular crash taking home a special trophy.
“The further the parts fly, the better,” says Goodwin. “Bring your old beater sander that’s on its last legs and send it off in a smash of glory. It’s going to be stupid-crazy fun.”
The National Championship Races feature speed-obsessed competitors who race stock and modified belt sanders down a 75-foot wooden track. The fastest and best-dressed sanders take home trophies and special awards presented by Accuride.
“We’re expecting serious speed this year. The track record is 2.42 seconds and we have some intense competitors determined to trounce the current record,” said Goodwin.
A limited number of sanders will be admitted to the championship races and Crash & Smash Derby. Those wishing to participate in either event are encouraged to register early to secure a position in the competition. For more information about Belt Sander Racing and the BSRA, event rules and regulations, or to register to compete, visit http://www.accuride.com/bsra.

ACCURIDE PRESENTS VERSATILE LINEAR TRACK SYSTEM
Accuride introduces the 115RC, a versatile linear motion track system designed to accommodate a wide variety of applications. Comprised of aluminum tracks and re-circulating ball carriages, it is a cost-effective solution for projects that require a defined length of travel.

The multi-component aspect of the 115RC System allows for several mounting and installation configurations. This flexibility expands potential applications, which may include movement, positioning, or guidance for screens, panels, or boards in business or school settings, restaurants, retail stores, and more.
The corrosion-resistant aluminum track is available in two lengths, 47" and 94", which may be cut to the length required. Multiple sections may be joined to extend the track to virtually any distance. The track may be side, flat, or vertically mounted. When flat mounted, the track may be oriented with the ball carriage facing up or down. Vertical mounting may be used for non-load bearing applications.
The re-circulating ball carriages provide the means for movement and positioning. One or more carriages may be inserted into the track. Single carriages may be used to provide independent movement, or multiple carriages may be combined. Additionally, both single and multiple-combined carriages may be used within one track. Carriages are available in two options with stainless steel or polymer ball bearings. The stainless steel ball carriage offers the highest load capacity. The polymer ball carriage is grease-free, and provides clean, smooth, and quiet operation.
The 115RC system carries a maximum of 265 pounds. Load rating is based on the type and number of carriages inserted into the track.
Installation of the 115RC Linear Track System is quick and easy. The tracks have drilling marks for both the fixing holes and end stops. Once the track is installed and the ball carriages are inserted, end stops are attached to keep the carriages securely within the track.

Accuride International Contributes to Successful SkillsUSA California State Conference
Accuride International and other generous companies showed their support for industry education activities by contributing over $6,000 in tools, supplies, gifts and prizes to the 2012 SkillsUSA California State Cabinetmaking Championships, held Saturday, April 14 at the Town & Country Resort and Convention Center in San Diego.

A total of twenty seven students from ten schools across the state competed for medals, prizes and the opportunity to represent California at the National Championships. Cabinetmaking students were challenged to build a two-foot tall cabinet utilizing Accuride 12” drawer slides for the drawer and Blum hinges for the face-frame door. Students had seven hours to finish the project. Industry professionals served as judges using criteria such as accuracy of measurements and use of tools and machinery. The finished cabinets were then donated to San Diego Habitat for Humanity.
The top three medalists each received a Bosch router. All competitors received a “goodie bag” with a tape measure, safety glasses, screwdriver, notepad, a current copy of Woodworker West magazine and other useful items.
“This is my twenty-fifth year as a SkillsUSA Advisor,” says Salinas High School/Mission Trails ROP instructor Chuck Felice, “and it has done so much for my students. It reinforces the cabinetmaking skills that I am teaching them and gives exposure to industry opportunities and visibility to my program.”
The students who earn the highest honors in the state competition – Gold Medals – are then eligible for a trip to Kansas City in June for the high-energy National Leadership & Skills Conference and competition, where they will pit their skills against students from all other states. Top-scoring national competitors will compete at the WorldSkills Cabinetmaking Qualifying Trial at the AWFS Fair, July 24-27, 2013 in Las Vegas, NV and the winner of that event will go to WorldSkills 2015 in Madrid.
“We are grateful to all of our industry sponsors for their support,” says SkillsUSA California State Director Clay Mitchell. “It is such an encouragement to the students to have an industry presence, showing them that there are opportunities and that industry supports their hard work and goals.” SkillsUSA is one of the largest national career & technical student organizations in the nation. It promotes job readiness with skills and leadership training and supports students entering skilled trades.
