The Greening of Accuride

"Green manufacturing" is a hot topic these days and Accuride is among the first in the cabinet hardware industry who has taken steps to alter processes to become more environmentally friendly.

Back in July of 2005, Accuride began steps to change all clear zinc plated product to Trivalent plating in order to achieve compliance with the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) Directive.

Today, All Accuride slides and their material components manufactured worldwide are RoHS compliant. The only exception is the black electroplate finish on limited product.

The RoHS Directive restricts the use of six hazardous materials in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment. With respect to manufacturing slides, the elimination of these hazardous materials affects the plating process.

RoHS is sometimes referred to as the "lead-free" directive, but it restricts the use of the following six substances:

  • Lead
  • Mercury
  • Cadmium
  • Chromium VI (Also known as hexavalent chromium or Cr6+)
  • PBB
  • PBDE

Because we are a global manufacturer, Accuride made the decision early on to change our plating process to meet the requirements set by the RoHS Directive.
